Awaken, dear readers, for The Sandman season 2 has just unveiled a thrilling cast update.

New Additions to The Sandman Cast

The popular Netflix fantasy series, which resumed filming after a hiatus due to Covid-19, had previously announced the addition of three new cast members in late May. These actors will portray iconic characters Destiny, Delirium, and The Prodigal. Now, less than two months later, nine more actors have joined the cast, including some familiar faces.

Meet the New Characters

According to The Sandman’s official X / Twitter account, season two will introduce several new characters:

  • Ruairi O’Connor (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) as Orpheus: Orpheus is the son of Morpheus/Dream (Tom Sturridge) and Calliope (Melissanthi Mahut), the protagonist of one of the bonus episodes from season one.
  • Freddie Fox (House of the Dragon season two) as Loki: The God of Mischief will be brought to life in The Sandman’s sophomore season.
  • Laurence O’Fuarain (The Witcher: Blood Origin) as Thor: The God of Thunder joins the cast alongside Loki.
  • Clive Russell (Game of Thrones) as Odin: Thor’s father and Loki’s blood-brother, Odin is also a long-time ally of Dream in Neil Gaiman’s original material.
  • Steve Coogan as the voice of Barnabas: Coogan, known for his role as Alan Partridge, will voice Barnabas, the talking dog companion of The Prodigal/Destruction.

More New Faces

Other new characters in the sandman season 2 include:

  • Ann Skelly (The Nevers) and Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) as Nuala and Cluracan: They play royal emissaries of the court of Faerie, showcasing contrasting personas.
  • Jack Gleeson (Sex Education, Game of Thrones) as Puck: Gleeson will portray the mischievous hobgoblin and royal jester to Faerie’s King Auberon.
  • Indya Moore (Pose) as Wanda: Moore will play Wanda, a professional driver and security agent for an exclusive travel firm. Wanda is one of the first transgender characters to appear in a graphic novel, making her introduction highly anticipated.

The Journey to Season Two

The Sandman season 2 was officially announced by Netflix in November 2022. However, its production journey has been challenging, with over 18 months of development due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The series only returned to full production last November. Fans are hoping that the cameras won’t have to roll for much longer, or it may be late 2025 before the new season is released.
