According to reports from FNNews, a Korean publication, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, also referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, is expected to launch on October 25. While this contradicts earlier reports hinting at an October 18 release, no official announcement has been made yet. This special edition device is said to be available only in China and Korea, with no plans for a global release.
A Slimmer Foldable with Impressive Specs
Leaked specifications indicate that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will feature a significant design improvement. When unfolded, the device is rumored to be 4.9mm thick, while its folded form measures 10.6mm—a noticeable reduction from the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which is 5.6mm unfolded and 12.1mm folded. These dimensions suggest Samsung is aiming to compete more directly with foldable devices from Chinese manufacturers, known for their thinner designs.
Exclusive Design Details Unveiled
Earlier leaks provided a glimpse of the phone’s design, which is expected to feature a flat back and flat frame. The rear of the device will include a redesigned camera island with three rear cameras, maintaining the layout seen in previous models. There’s also speculation that the backplate could resemble brushed aluminum, though it’s likely a glass panel with a specialized finish underneath.
Additional images reveal a camera hole on the cover display, suggesting a consistent approach to the front-facing camera placement. In terms of display, the main screen is expected to measure 8 inches, while the cover display will span 6.5 inches, both of which will be flat.
Samsung’s Foldable Strategy Moving Forward
Although Samsung has yet to confirm any details about this special edition, these rumored specifications suggest a continued focus on enhancing the thinness and durability of its foldable phones. With a growing competitive market, particularly from Chinese manufacturers, this could be a move to strengthen Samsung’s position in the foldable space.
