Rumors of a Peacock Price Increase

Peacock, the popular streaming service, may increase the cost of its monthly and annual plans again. According to Variety, the monthly Premium with ads plan will see a $2 increase to $7.99, making it more expensive than Netflix’s Standard with ads option. The Premium Plus plan, which is mostly ad-free, will also see a similar hike to $13.99 a month.

New Pricing Structure

Here is the new pricing structure after the Peacock price increase:

  • Peacock Premium (with ads): $7.99 per month (increased from $5.99)
  • Peacock Premium Plus (mostly ad-free): $13.99 per month (increased from $11.99)
  • Peacock Premium annual price: $79.99 (increased from $69.99)
  • Peacock Premium Plus annual price: $139.99 (increased from $119.99)

Effective Dates

The price increase will take effect at different times for different groups:

  • New customers: July 18
  • Current subscribers: August 17 or later, depending on their next billing date

Why the Peacock Price Increase?

The reason for the price increase is not officially confirmed, but many speculate it’s due to the upcoming Olympics. NBCUniversal, the parent company of Peacock, has the rights to broadcast the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics in the United States, and the games will likely be streamed on Peacock TV and other NBCUniversal channels.

Recent Updates

Peacock has made some significant updates in 2024, including:

  • Exclusive rights to stream Oppenheimer
  • Introduction of Multiview, which allows users to watch up to four different Olympic sports at once
  • Introduction of Live Actions, which allows viewers to continue watching an event rather than moving with the broadcast to another
  • Partnership with Roku to introduce the NBC Olympic Zone, where users can watch the summer games on their Roku TV or device
