Microsoft has acknowledged a bug introduced by recent Windows 10 updates that disrupts a specific taskbar functionality, but fortunately, a fix is on the way.
Some Windows 10 users are encountering a problem when they right-click on a pinned taskbar app. Instead of the usual jump list menu, which provides quick access to common functions like recent files, they see an ‘Open with…’ menu. This unexpected menu is not only unhelpful but also confusing. According to Windows Latest, which discovered the issue, it affects a small group of users and only certain apps. Although the problem isn’t widespread, it is a significant annoyance for those impacted. The bug affects various recent Windows 10 updates, including the latest June cumulative update, the May cumulative update (and its optional update), and the April optional update.
Analysis: Swift Fix Expected
With the issue identified, a resolution is likely not far off and could appear in next month’s cumulative update. If so, the fix may arrive even sooner with the June optional update, which serves as a preview for the July update. This update is expected to be available within the next week or so, although there is no absolute guarantee the fix will be ready by then.
Additionally, Microsoft continues to develop Windows 10 by adding new features and has recently reactivated the Beta channel for testing these updates. This is happening despite Windows 10 approaching its End of Life date in October 2025, reminding users that it’s time to start planning for a transition to a new operating system.
