Model numbers for Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra have recently surfaced online, but curiously, there’s no sign of the Galaxy S25 Plus.

Discrepancy in Model Numbers

Android Headlines reported this anomaly after examining the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) database. This database is used by tech companies to upload model numbers for new smartphones, aiding in tracking lost or stolen devices. It’s also a common source for early information about upcoming phones.

In their findings, Android Headlines identified model number SM-S931B/DS for the standard Galaxy S25. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, on the other hand, has four model numbers: SM-S938B (Global), SM-S938U (United States), SM-S938N (South Korea), and SM-S9380 (unknown country). However, there is no listing for the Galaxy S25 Plus, leading to speculation that Samsung may focus on just two models for the next generation.

Potential Focus on Two Models

The publication suggests that the absence of the S25 Plus could be due to its poor sales performance in previous years. Customers seem to prefer either the base model or the Ultra version. This trend, coupled with Samsung’s history of streamlining its product lineup—from four models annually to three since 2021—supports the theory that the company might drop the Plus model to simplify its offerings and boost Ultra sales.

Conflicting Reports

Contrary to this theory, GalaxyClub, a Dutch news site specializing in Galaxy tech, asserts that Samsung will not deviate from its three-phone lineup. They claim the Galaxy S25 Plus, assigned the model number SM-S936 and internally referred to as F2 (with the S25 being F1 and the S25 Ultra F3), will indeed launch next January. GalaxyClub’s reliable track record for Samsung releases lends credibility to their report.

Despite this, the reason for the Galaxy S25 Plus’s absence from the IMEI database remains unclear. 9To5Google speculates that Samsung might not have uploaded the information yet, considering the S25 series launch is still months away. Nonetheless, the exclusion of the S25 Plus is a development worth monitoring.

Upcoming Features and Leaks

The upcoming Galaxy S25 series is expected to feature significant design changes and larger batteries compared to the S24 lineup. As always with leaks, it’s important to take these details with a grain of salt.
