Adata unveiled its XPG Nia Windows gaming handheld during Computex 2024 and took us by surprise.
The Taiwanese hardware manufacturer has joined a growing list of companies entering the Windows gaming handheld market, reflecting the technology’s explosive popularity. This trend was evident with four Windows gaming handhelds announced at Computex 2024, including Adata XPG Nia.
The Nia stands out by offering a unique design that sets it apart from other gaming handhelds. Here’s everything you need to know about the Adata XPG Nia.
ADATA XPG NIA: Rumored Release Date
While the XPG Nia does not have an official release date, Videocardz reports that the device will likely launch in early 2025. However, this information isn’t publicly confirmed, so it should be taken with caution. The model showcased at Computex 2024 in Taipei was only a prototype, missing certain features such as the upgradeable RAM and SSD storage accessible by pulling out the back stand.
Adata plans to release 3D printing and pinout files to make the Nia customizable. According to Hardware Busters, Adata suggested that they might use Kickstarter to gauge interest before a full release. This makes a 2024 launch seem unlikely.
ADATA XPG NIA: Price
The pricing specifics are still unknown, but a range between $500 and $600 has been reported. Hardware Busters mentioned a target price “as close to $500 as possible,” while Videocardz suggested it would be under $600. This is likely the starting price, with potential configurations including up to 8TB of SSD storage and 64GB of RAM, which could significantly increase the cost.
ADATA XPG NIA: Design
The XPG Nia’s design is particularly fascinating and is expected to be a major selling point. Unlike other gaming handhelds with a fixed display, the Nia features a pop-out panel that tilts upwards at an angle, roughly estimated at 30 to 40 degrees.
This innovative design allows users to hold the gamepad at different angles while maintaining a straight-facing display, which could provide a more ergonomic experience during extended gaming sessions. When combined with the kickstand on the back, the pop-out display offers a convenient angle for tabletop use, making it ideal for connecting an external gamepad or watching films on the go.
Luca Di Fiore, Head of Products at Adata, highlighted in an interview with the GGF Events YouTube channel that the XPG Nia is primarily built for the modding market. The back panel beneath the kickstand is removable, allowing users to expand memory and SSD storage. He also mentioned that the Nia would be the first XPG product with a “circular computing platform,” and they plan to release 3D files and pinout information to facilitate easy modifications.
Additionally, the Nia can be repurposed into various roles such as a wireless hub or a remote control, making it a versatile device.
ADATA XPG NIA: Specs
The exact details of the XPG Nia’s display and processor remain vague. It will feature a 7-inch display, but specifics such as refresh rate, panel type, and resolution are still unknown. The device will be powered by an AMD Phoenix APU, potentially either a Ryzen 7 8840U or a Ryzen Z1 Extreme, as suggested by Videocardz.
The Nia’s highly customizable RAM and SSD storage offer considerable flexibility, with support for up to 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 8TB of M.2 2230 NVME SSD storage.
