Live Translate, a feature in the Galaxy AI suite developed by Samsung, offers real-time translation between languages. This feature is set to expand into third-party apps soon, with WhatsApp expected to be one of the first to benefit.

According to reliable tipster @UniverseIce (via Neowin), WhatsApp integration is on the way, though no specific timeline has been provided. Samsung has previously mentioned that other apps will receive Live Translate, but hasn’t specified which ones.

The exact workings of the feature remain to be seen. Currently, on compatible Samsung phones, Live Translate is integrated into the default messaging app and also works on phone calls. Additionally, there is a standalone Interpreter tool for instant audio translations. According to SamMobile, the integration could extend to audio calls in WhatsApp, allowing real-time translation during conversations and text message conversions.

AI Integration in Smartphones

Phone manufacturers are increasingly incorporating AI into their devices. Recently, Apple showcased a variety of Apple Intelligence features set to arrive on the iPhone later this year.

Google has also been enhancing its AI offerings. The Google Pixel 8a, as highlighted in our review, includes features like AI-generated wallpapers, live language translation for phone calls, and AI-powered photo editing.

Samsung is determined not to lag behind in AI advancements. Enabling third-party apps to utilize AI features could be a strategic move to maintain its competitive edge. We might hear more about new AI innovations at the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, July 10. Expected hardware launches include the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the Galaxy Watch 7, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
