Apple is gearing up to announce its newest iPhone in September, and industry insiders are already dropping hints about the upcoming upgrades.
While the iPhone 16 has yet to be officially revealed, Apple’s latest venture into artificial intelligence—dubbed Apple Intelligence—appears to be the centerpiece of the launch, potentially overshadowing any major hardware changes.
Apple Intelligence and Subscription Model
According to Bloomberg, Apple Intelligence will initially be offered for free, with potential subscription options for users seeking enhanced AI capabilities. To access Apple Intelligence, users will need to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro or later. One significant improvement will be to Siri, which is expected to become even smarter with iOS 18, leveraging Apple Intelligence and the company’s partnership with OpenAI. This was highlighted at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
Battery Enhancements in iPhone 16 Pro Max
Ming-Chi Kuo, a respected analyst based in Taiwan known for his accurate Apple predictions, revealed in May that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature notable battery improvements.
In a blog post, Kuo mentioned that the energy density of the battery cells will increase, which could result in longer battery life or a smaller battery size. He noted that these changes might raise the battery temperature, but Apple could mitigate this with a stainless-steel battery case—an innovation that would be a first for the company.
Compliance with EU Regulations
Adjustments to the iPhone 16’s battery will also help Apple comply with European Union regulations requiring all smartphones to have replaceable batteries by 2027. A stainless-steel case would allow Apple to “increase the battery cell density by 5-10% while meeting safety requirements, achieving two goals at once,” Kuo explained in a X post.
