Ahead of Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC , which is just days away, news has surfaced about a significant update that might be unveiled. The Cupertino-based tech giant is rumored to introduce a major design overhaul to the Settings app. According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) indicates that iOS 18 will feature a new interface with a reorganized, cleaner layout. Additionally, enhancements to the search functionality within the Settings app and much-needed improvements to the Control Center are expected.

Apple’s Siri AI Upgrade with iOS 18

Reports suggest that Apple is working on a generative AI upgrade for its Siri voice assistant. This update aims to make Siri capable of generating more accurate and insightful answers and summaries. A standout feature anticipated in iOS 18 is the “Greymatter Catch Up” functionality, designed to keep users updated on their notifications even when they are away from their devices. Integrated with Siri, this feature will provide a comprehensive overview of recent notifications, ensuring users stay informed without needing to sift through each one individually. “Greymatter” is reportedly the internal codename for these advanced AI capabilities.

Apple’s AI Collaboration with OpenAI

Recently, rumors have been circulating about Apple’s potential partnership with OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, to integrate generative AI capabilities into iOS 18. This collaboration is expected to be a major highlight at the WWDC 2024 event. However, in a bid to reduce its dependence on OpenAI, Apple is also rumored to be negotiating a deal with Google to offer users an alternative AI solution.

Gurman suggests that these new AI features in iOS 18 might initially be available as a preview in the developer beta version, with a stable release likely to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 16 in September.
